REIKI FOR TEENAGERS AND CHILDREN

Sometimes we forget that adolescents are going through a major change in life and that they need a lot of nurturing and TLC. The teenager’s brain is literally resetting itself! This can be a very unsettling time and very often cause a myriad of problems.

The sooner we start working with someone and their energy the better as in this way they will be able to deal with life in a much calmer way.  Reiki can help a young person feel calmer and more balanced.

Working with the adolescent’s energy the therapist channels it to flow freely and energise as well as bringing a sense of balance and wellbeing, helping them in their transformation.

It is a beautiful way to guide a person through their different stages of life and whatever issues or troubles they might experience. But we don’t always need to wait until the problems arise as preventing is key to avoid many other problems. Reiki is for anyone!

WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO TAKE CARE OF OUR WELLBEING

When we take good, constant care of our wellbeing we are better able to deal with life’s events, major or minor. Right now we are all going through a major event and it is affecting us all in one way or another.

We all have different ways or methods to take care of our wellbeing but one thing I can tell you, complementary therapies are at the top of my list! Why? Because they are what really helped me when I needed to improve my health, physically as well as mentally.

Reflexology and Reiki are two holistic therapies that can do this for you, and they did and do for me, everyday!

Reflexology can be done on the feet, hands, and face. The stimulation of specific reflex points related to organs and systems of the body, helps bring us back into balance.

Reiki works with your energy, to make it flow freely so you can feel more balanced and healthy.

Both of these therapies bring about calmness and relaxation and are wonderful at boosting our health and wellbeing.

I keep hearing or reading that now more than ever we need to look after ourselves, but the truth is, we need to do this always, so we are ready for any challenges we might face.

Anxiety and stress are at an all-time high and this is where complementary therapies could really help. Keeping our stress and anxiety levels low is a key factor in our health. Feeling a little stressed or anxious is perfectly normal but when the levels go so high that we feel unwell and unable to face difficult times, we need to take charge and look after ourselves.

REFLEXOLOGY, REIKI AND TIME TO TALK, A GREAT HELP TO CALM THE NERVES

A few months ago I was treating one of my lovely regular clients and whilst she was relaxed and enjoying the treatment I could feel she was not as calm as usual when she comes into the treatment room. But this happens sometimes as everyday is different and she hadn't reported any issues that I needed to consider. We always have a chat at the end, I do this with all my clients, and she told me that she was going to have a blood test and was very nervous. She doesn't like having them and had had many problems before at to the point when there is no blood coming out or fainting. Now I could understand why she wasn't as relaxed!
We talked for a few minutes and I assured her that everything would be fine, that the treatment's effect would help her feel calm and relaxed and that I just knew that she would be ok. I work with energy too as I am a Reiki Master. I very lightly put my hands on her shoulders and looked her in the eye and said to her, "everything is going to be just fine". She left the room smiling so I was feeling confident that I had been able to reassure her, not just because of the treatment but also because I took time to speak to her and calmed her down. At least I hoped I had!
The next time she came to see me for a treatment, she had a huge smile on her face and as soon as she started talking she told me, "Carmen, you are a wizard!" I burst out laughing and asked her what she meant! She told me that after seeing me the previous time, she went for her blood test and she was literally in and out within and few minutes, no issues, no fainting, no problems having her blood taken out and she also said that she felt calmed and relaxed, which is very unusual for her in that situation.
I was so happy to hear this. Happy because she had sailed through something she usually struggles with and because I had been able to help her. A happy outcome again!

BENEFITS OF REFLEXOLOGY DURING THE MENOPAUSE

I like to think of the period that leads to the menopause as the door to embracing nature and going with the flow rather than fighting it. Easier said than done, right? But it really works, if we fight the symptoms we are fighting nature! The menopause is a natural process that all women go through, some smoother than others but nevertheless one we can’t avoid.

This is a time where we as women can reflect on who we are and start loving ourselves once and for all! Many of us spend most of our younger years fighting our bodies and what better time than now, whilst we learn to love ourselves into maturity. Yes, I know, some go through it earlier than others for many different reasons, but this is where reflexology comes in, as it is suitable for all ages.

This is a beautiful therapy that can assist us in this transitional time. Reflexology is a holistic, hands on therapy that dates back as far as Ancient Egypt. By working on the feet, hands and face we can reach a point of relaxation that for many women is much needed during the menopause. We stimulate the body systems and organs by applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands and face related to points in the body.

Furthermore, reflexology brings a sense of well-being that can help relieve symptoms such as hot flushes, water retention and mood swings, plus you get an hour to yourself, just for you, where you can relax and just be.

BEAT THE WINTER BLUES WITH REFLEXOLOGY

I personally love September and the beginning of autumn, its colours and the change of light but for many people it is a time of low moods and feeling depressed. Summer is ending, the days are getting shorter and darker. This is a time when many people that have SAD (yes you read it correctly!) will start to notice the symptoms kick in. Seasonal Affective Disorder or as it is known by many “Winter depression” or “Winter blues” affects many people. However, during the summer months the symptoms aren’t as obvious. The sun, light and warmth can help lift low mood and generally make us feel happier. Other symptoms related to SAD are, irritability, feeling lethargic and loss of interest on everyday activities, amongst many others. September is renowned for lowering our mood as we move into the autumn and the darker months. A healthy diet and exercise are some of the best ways to keep us positive but there is also an array of therapies that can help, amongst these is reflexology. Reflexology is a hands-on therapy that can be performed on the feet and hands which has been around from the time of the Ancient Egyptians. The Chinese are also known to have been using pressure of specific points on the hands and the feet for over 5000 years. Reflexology works on the principle that the body is a whole thus, treating the whole body will help achieve balance within the body and the mind. By applying pressure to specific points or reflexes we can gain access to all the systems and organs of the body. It is a wonderful therapy that can do wonders for relaxation and ease the symptoms of SAD by allowing the body to release the right hormones so the moods can be balanced and make us feel better. Working on the reflexes of the feet and hands can have an immense effect on the person receiving the treatment. Feelings of relaxation and serenity are notably present, this usually leads to better sleep which in turn can make us feel more upbeat and relaxed.
